New Quarter 2 Schedule

Posted on: November 3, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We wanted to make you aware of a few changes we made to the high school schedule to improve virtual learning for all of our students.

Students and staff from both SAHS and WAHS discussed some of the biggest challenges and concerns, and the new schedule will better address these areas.

PRIORITIES FOR BEST SERVING STUDENTS

  • Lunch remaining an hour and coinciding with pick up and drop off routes

    • In order to ensure our HS students are able to have a lunch that aligns with lunch routes, 5th period will be moved before lunch.

    • This also coincides better with elementary, middle, and family lunch times.

  • Office hours for students in order to get help and access teachers

    • Students need time to access help from their teachers outside of class.

    • Teachers will be available from 1:45 pm – 2:30 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday to work one-on-one with students.

  • Quality instructional time for HS classes

    • Classes will be 65 minutes with synchronous and asynchronous learning. Teachers will build in time for lecture/direct instruction, time for individual and/or group work, and class activities. While students will be expected to work for 65 minutes, there will be opportunities for them to work independently during the class. This provides a better opportunity for students to ask questions in class and for teachers to mimic a classroom situation more authentic to the way in-person learning is structured. If and when we are able to transition to hybrid learning, this will also make the transition to school much easier.

When are are able to attend classes in a hybrid model, we may need to make adjustments to our schedule.
